White-eyed River-martin Pseudochelidon sirintaraeThis species is endemic to Thailand. It’s only known to Bung Boraphet, a lake in South-central Thailand. Nesting sites might happen on one of the four major rivers: Ping, Wang, Yom or Nan. This bird’s habitat is unknown, but his close relative, the African-river Martin, inhabits the sandbars of large rivers so it is supposed that the White-eyed River Martin might do too. There isn’t much information on this bird, so biologists look at the African-river Martin to understand the White-eyed Martin’s habits. This one has a broader bill which might imply that the diet is different. A large beetle was found in the stomach on one of the first White-eyed Martin ever studied, which suggests that his prey might be larger than his African cousin. According to the system for classifying species at risk for extinction, this bird is threatened, i.e. critically endangered.
